The star has donated the entirety of his £25k Mercury Prize cash to the Music Venues Trust, which works to preserve the United Kingdom's grassroots music venues.

Fender was presented with the cheque on mid-October as his latest record the album was named the best record of the past year.

The musician has opted to donate the funds to the MVT, in appreciation of the crucial part local spots had in his initial steps.

"I personally would not have achieved my current career if it wasn't for all the shows I played around the North East, and beyond, when I was beginning," said Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – approximately one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, top acts including Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its initiatives to help venues survive, by including a modest fee to their ticket costs, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Fender also joined in, raising in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist thirty-eight grassroots venues across Britain.

The donation helped locations that were facing possible closure due to challenges stemming from water damage, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, court cases and sound issues.

Additional spaces received funding support in modernizing amenities and gear that positively impacted musicians and concertgoers.

"The concept that funds from performances in major spaces supports the local stages, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just common sense," Fender has said.

The musician is far from the only musician to contribute his honor funds to good deeds.

When Pulp won the prize in the mid-90s for their record their work, vocalist the singer announced that the band would give their cash to the organization War Child.

In 2002, artist she split her bounty across multiple organizations, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I donated a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked better apparatus," Ms Dynamite explained to outlets.

Previously, Ezra Collective gave their funds to the community center that nurtured their act, in addition to other independent music bodies.

And the 1994 recipients M People donated their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was diagnosed the condition.

"Receiving the award was ample," stated artist Small. "The cash was the extra but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the honor. So our winning touched another person's life."

Recently, the MVT announced it had saved a couple of grassroots venues in south-east England, by transferring them to community ownership.

The Joiners in Southampton and the second in Bristol were purchased under the public acquisition program, which is backed by a national body and music fans who purchase "stakes" in the properties.
