Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to begin their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear out of place, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.
The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and advises that it is a hostile environment.
- The warrior and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- However, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the team access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This means them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Seekers and Strategists groups.
Viewers can expect learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
